VIDEO: The Decatur Fire Department responded to multiple fires on July Fourth. The fire department said they first arrived at a shed that was โfully involvedโ by fire on S. Illinois St. around 11 p.m. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire.
As crews were responding to the shed fire, however, another fire broke out on N. 34th, officials said. The firefighters responded to the second structure around 11:30 p.m. When they arrived at the home, crews found โadvancedโ fire conditions. Part of the basement floor had also collapsed. The firefighters worked for about three hours to completely extinguish the fire. Officials said the home was empty at the time of the fire but was being renovated.
