Illinois American Water announced that more than 100 Illinois Fire Departments and Districts will be receiving some grant money to help support their firefighters. The company has awarded more than $110,000 to 112 fire departments across the state as part of the Illinois American Water’s Firefighter Grant Program, Anna Kubas, an Illinois American Water spokesperson, said.
The grant money is distributed to go towards protective gear, communication and water handling equipment, firefighting tools and educational materials. These grants were first announced during Fire Prevention Week in October to raise awareness on the importance of emergency planning and fire prevention.
Shawn Sollberger, the fire chief at the city of Peoria Fire Department, said the department was thankful for the support Illinois American Water showed throughout the state. “The City of Peoria Fire Department is proud to recognize community partners like Illinois American Water, whose commitment and contributions positively impact our ability to deliver high-quality fire services to the residents of Peoria,” Sollberger said.
