Cahokia Heights makes new public safety push

VIDEO: In Cahokia Heights, the Metro East cityโ€™s leadership is refocusing its priorities. Infrastructure was one of those, and now police and fire. This is the latest move since the town was formed through the merger of Cahokia, Alorton and Centreville in 2021.

Douglas Edwards is a proud product of the Metro East. After leaving the area following high school, he made his way back to Cahokia Heights and owns Chefโ€™s Kitchen. He sees the importance of community support and involvement. Edwards said, โ€œI mean, itโ€™s everyone around the community. They want business around the area. They want businesses to thrive and theyโ€™re proving that with support.โ€ That includes changes heโ€™s seeing at city hall.

โ€œI think the police department, fire department have been doing a pretty good job. Weโ€™ve been having a lot of fires in homes around the area and they are jumping on it. Theyโ€™ve been trying to clear a lot of things out,โ€ said Edwards. โ€œThey see people who are not supposed to be in places; they go and talk with them.โ€

Thursday, Cahokia Heights introduced a new direction for its public safety departments, with new leadership for the police and fire departments. The mayor said there are challenges to meet.
