Bloomington Fire Department Earns National Recognition for Lifesaving Cardiac Care

The Bloomington Fire Department has received the American Heart Associationโ€™s Mission: Lifeline EMS GOLD achievement award for its excellence in emergency cardiac and stroke care. The award recognizes the departmentโ€™s commitment to delivering fast, evidence-based treatment for individuals suffering from severe heart attacks and strokes. In 2024, Bloomington Fire responded to 461 chest pain calls among a total of 10,775 EMS responses and 13,365 total calls for service. To earn the Gold-level recognition, the department met four cardiac achievement benchmarks and two stroke reporting measures, demonstrating adherence to national guidelines that begin with a 911 call and continue through hospital care.
