Battalion Chief retires after 28 years of service to Peoria

VIDEO/PHOTOS: As one battalion chief retires, another one is promoted. After 28 years, Jeff Hascall will put up his turnout gear and clean out his locker at the Peoria Fire Department. He said he plans to use his time as a retired firefighter to spend more time with his family, said a post on the departmentโ€™s Facebook page.

His boss, Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger, lauded praise upon Hascall. โ€œAfter 28 years of service to the city of Peoria, Jeff exemplified everything that it took in our profession to be a great leader and firefighter. Chief Hascall will be sorely missed,โ€ the chief said.

With Tuesday, July 8 being his last day, the following promotions took place to fill the empty spots.

  • Josh Martin to battalion chief paramedic
  • Ben Gareau to captain paramedic
  • Tim Morrow to engineer

โ€œThrough hard work, commitment, and dedication, each of these firefighters will accept the responsibility of their respective rank and continue to provide the Peoria area with the highest level of fire department-related services,โ€ the post said.
