At least 1 taken to hospital after apartment fire in far north suburban Gurnee

VIDEO: At least one person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at an apartment building early Saturday morning in far north suburban Gurnee. According to Gurnee officials, the fire started early Saturday morning in a two-story apartment building in the 6700 block of Derby Drive. Firefighters arrived to see flames coming from the first and second floors, and neighbors say they heard a loud explosion. “I opened my patio door and, of course, smoke,” neighbor Peggy Lyons said. “And I saw flames shooting out the window of my neighbors.” One resident was taken to a hospital, and a second person may have also been injured, officials say. There’s no word on the extent of the injuries, and investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
