VIDEO/PHOTOS: Authorities are investigating three separate fires at the Fairgrounds Housing Development that all happened within a day of each other. Rockford Housing Authority CEO Laura Snyder said in a press release, “I am thankful that no one was injured and that we are working with Rockford PD to protect our property and identify the individual responsible.”
At 11:20 a.m. on Sunday, firefighters were called to the Fairgrounds complex for a fire in the 800 block of Tanner Street. Around 8 p.m., firefighters returned to a massive blaze in the 900 block of Acorn Street, finding fire coming from the roof of three out of four residential apartments. Authorities said the building was boarded up and uninhabited, but the fire caused approximately $100,000 in damage. Then, at 11:57 a.m. on Monday, firefighters were called back to the housing development for a fire in a building in the 300 block of Leather Court. Authorities said the vacant building had smoke coming from one of the apartments when crews arrived on the scene. Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 8 minutes.
