Apartment fire quickly controlled by Urbana and Champaign fire crews

PHOTOS: There was a fire with no casualties at the Whitney Apartments in Urbana on Thursday. ABC 20 talked to Urbana Fire Chief Desmond Dade, and he gave them the details. On April 17 at around 5:50 p.m., there was a call for a heavy fire outside of the apartment building at 1607 E Florida Ave. Urbana Crews arrived on the scene and found a fire outside the complex. Crews extinguished the fire. They upgraded the scene to a level 2 alarm because there was more fire in the attic of the building. All of the Urbana Crews plus some from the Champaign Fire Department arrived at the scene and worked to put out the attic fire. No one was injured, however one firefighter got overheated working in the attic. By 6:15 p.m., crews had the fire under control. The cause of fire is currently unknown.
