PHOTOS: A fire at an abandoned house in Rockford caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage early Monday morning, according to the Rockford Fire Department. Rockford firefighters were called to the house in the 1000 block of S. 3rd St. just after 1 a.m. Monday. A red “X” sign was marked on the side of the house, meaning it was vacant and unsafe to enter.
First responders found the two-story home engulfed with flames, particularly throughout the first floor and a large fire coming out from the back of the building. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to put the fire out from the outside. No injuries were reported. In a post on social media, Rockford Fire says their firefighters have multiple ways, including through thermal imaging cameras, to confirm if no one is inside a burning building without going inside in a life-threatening situation. The Rockford Fire Department estimates the damage from the fire at $30,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
