4 dogs rescued, several more unaccounted for after house fire in Woodstock

PHOTOS: Firefighters responding to a two-story home fully engulfed in flames on Friday helped rescue four dogs trapped amid their efforts. While no people were inside the home, located in the 200 block of S. Queen Road, at the time of the blaze, fire officials said six additional dogs, believed to have been on the upper levels of the house, remain unaccounted for.

Firefighters rescued four dogs through a basement door, according to Woodstock Fire. Each pet had inhaled a significant amount of smoke and sustained minor burns, but was reportedly in good health. Fire crews worked to bring the blaze under control in about 90 minutes. It was just after 7:50 a.m. that Woodstock fire crews responded to the area following several reports of black smoke. The home is destroyed and is considered a complete loss, Woodstock fire personnel added. More than a dozen agencies responded to the blaze. Fire crews cleared the scene shortly after noon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation with the McHenry County Sheriffโ€™s Office assisting.
