One dead after house fire in Coeur d’Alene

VIDEO: One person was killed in a house fire on Sunday morning in Coeur d’Alene.ย The Coeur d’Alene Fire Department says crews with CDAFD, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, and Northern Lakes Fire District responded to a fire near 15th Street and Elderberry Circle on Sunday just before 8 a.m. CDAFD says crews were advised that a person was in the home. Coeur d’Alene police were on the scene but could not enter the home due to high heat and heavy smoke.ย CDAFD says the fire was quickly extinguished, and firefighters located the resident of the home.

The person was taken to Kootenai Health by ambulance, where they passed away from injuries. The fire department says a small dog escaped from the home during the firefighting efforts, but returned to the house while investigators were on scene. Animal Control was contacted to care for the dog until family members of the woman who died can be located. CDAFD says the fire was determined to be accidental and reminds people to ensure they have working smoke alarms in their homes.
