The City of Jerome Fire Department is preparing for its annual coat drive, with plans to distribute at least 1,000 coats to children in need this winter. The department has been organizing the coat drive for nine years, providing new winter coats to local families each season. โOur goal is to hand out at least 1,000 coats,โ said David LaCelle, Fire Marshal for the City of Jerome Fire Department. The department begins preparing for the winter coat drive months in advance to ensure adequate supply.
โWe start ordering coats in July. So in order to get these coats we have over here, we ordered in July and August to make sure we would have them,โ LaCelle said. The coat drive operates the same way it has in previous years. โWe run cars through in a drive-through situation so the kids are getting coats. Our only requirement is the kids have to be here when they get their coat. We want to see the smile on their face and make sure itโs going to a kid in need,โ LaCelle said. The fire department accepts donations throughout the year. People can donate cash, checks or new coats directly at the fire station.
