Idaho Army National Guard rescues injured man in mountain mission

A crew with the Idaho Army National Guard and the Valley County Sheriff’s Office rescued a man in the mountains near Yellow Pine on the evening of Oct. 14. The man had broken his leg and could not walk or ride his dirt bike out of the heavily wooded terrain, according to the Idaho Army National Guard. The search and rescue mission was complicated due to the heavily wooded terrain, which also meant Life Flight could not land.

In a HH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, the crew located the man next to a small fire. Sgt. 1st Class Jade Parsons was lowered to the man’s location from the helicopter by Staff Sgt. Brad Stock. Parsons stabilized the man’s leg. She then used a rescue vest to lift the man into the helicopter. Officials said he was transported to Reed Ranch Airstrip to be transferred for care. This was the Idaho Army National Guard’s 13th successful rescue this year. The helicopter was piloted by Chief Warrant Officer 3 Theron Cameron and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Colton Ankeney.
