Fourth of July busy for dispatchers in Ada, Canyon counties, but fire-related incidents down

It was a busy holiday weekend for emergency responders across the Treasure Valley. Dispatchers reported an increase in the number of calls regarding complaints about illegal fireworks. In Canyon County, emergency crews responded to 107 illegal fireworks complaints from Friday to Sunday. That is up from last yearโ€™s number of 67. Between midnight Friday and 6 a.m. Saturday, Ada County responded to 549 illegal fireworks complaints.

That is the highest since Ada County started tracking that data in 2017. While fireworks complaints were up, fire-related emergency calls dropped to just 10 during that same period. That is down dramatically from 43 in 2024, marking the lowest number of fire incidents on record for a holiday. While the Ada County Sheriff’s Office couldn’t elaborate on the reason for the low number of calls, it is possible that the storms southern Idaho saw on the 4th played a factor.

When it comes to impaired driving, law enforcement in Ada County arrested 23 people for driving under the influence between midnight on the fourth and 6 a.m. Monday morning. In Canyon County, DUI arrests were down slightly, with only two arrests made compared to four in 2024. The Caldwell Fire Department stated it handled 121 incidents from July 2 to July 6. There were 68 medical emergencies, 10 fires, and 43 other calls.
