VIDEO: The Jerome Rural Fire District extinguished a fire just east of Jerome on Saturday morning.
At 10:43 a.m., firefighters rushed to a property along South 300 East, just north of the East 200 South intersection, according to Fire Chief Larry Robbins. He said that people were illegally burning mattresses when the fire got out of control.
Two nearby sheds containing chainsaws, generators and other various items caught fire, according to Robbins. The flames shot up to around 10 feet into the air, emitting a dark column of smoke that was visible all the way from Twin Falls.
Robbins said firefighters quickly controlled the blaze in less than 10 minutes, preventing further damage and leaving no injuries. He said people should stay informed about what items they can legally and safely burn to prevent future fires.
