As the Coeur d’Alene community continues its healing journey after the tragedy at Canfield Mountain, the Coeur dโAlene High School class of 2015 came together to help their hometown a decade after graduation. “You just don’t expect this to happen,” said Kylie Rasmussen, the 2015 Senior Class President. Rasmussen says her class also raised money the year before they graduated, after CDA Police Sergeant Greg Moore died in the line of duty.
Now, days before their 10-year reunion, the class came together again to aid the families of the first responders who were killed and injured in the June 29 ambush attack. Rasmussen says her family was also out on the lake near the base of Canfield Mountain when the fire first broke out. “I think it would have been a missed opportunity had we not at least addressed it or tried to help in any way we could,” said Rasmussen.
In less than 3 days, the group raised close to $2,100, surpassing their goal of $2,015. “The fact that even by Friday we were almost there was just, I think, unexpected but amazing that it happened,” said Rasmussen.
