The Caldwell Fire Department quickly extinguished a trash truck engulfed in flames Thursday morning. A Caldwell Fire spokesperson said crews responded to a call around 9:30 a.m., reporting a trash truck was on fire near the intersection of Pride Lane and Lonkey Lane. According to the spokesperson, the “commercial vehicle fire involving a trash truck equipped with Liquid Propane Gas tanks.”
Due to the nature of the fire, including the propane and the high risk of explosion, CFD took a cautious approach, using “an aerial apparatus to drop water from a safe distance.” Caldwell Fire said it allowed the fuel to burn off while keeping the fire crews safe. CFD’s Engine 12 was the first on the scene, and it later supplied Truck 11 for extinguishment. Caldwell Fire said Wilder’s Truck 81 and Caldwell Water Tender 18 also assisted in the fight. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
