Boise Mayor Lauren McLean has selected Aaron Hummel to serve as the city’s next fire chief after the retirement of Mark Niemeyer. Hummel has been with the city’s fire department since 1995. He currently oversees the department’s battalion chiefs and has spent much of his career in operations leadership roles. He’s played key roles in emergency response, EMS coordination, inter-agency collaboration, and regional operations, according to a news release from the city.
“From his first day putting on his uniform, Aaron has served our residents as part of Boise’s Fire Department,” McLean said. “For three decades, he has shown exemplary service and dedication to our community and has demonstrated, time and again, his passion for his profession. I look forward to his leadership.” Hummel also serves on several local and national fire leadership boards — including the Southwest Idaho Fire Chiefs Executive Board and the Ada County Dispatch Emergency Service Users Group.
