Oahu: 2-alarm fire at Makaha Valley Towers sends woman to hospital

VIDEO: A 69-year-old woman is in serious condition following a two-alarm fire in Makaha. The fire broke out at around 8:52 a.m. from the complex on Kili Drive. Crews arrived to find flames and smoke coming from a unit on the 16th floor of a high-rise. According to Emergency Medical Services, the woman suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to an emergency room for treatment.

The fire was extinguished by 10:44 a.m. The fire investigator classified the cause as accidental, and that the fire occurred while charging a wheelchair. The estimated damage is $450,000, which includes total losses to the primary residence and the unit below due to water damage.
