Kaua‘i Fire Department urges residents to download life-saving app

The Kaua‘i Fire Department (KFD) reminds residents to download PulsePoint, an app that can call for help when someone experiences cardiac arrest. PulsePoint alerts users trained in CPR when someone nearby has this emergency. It also directs that helper to the nearest publicly-placed Automated External Defibrillator (AED). “By connecting trained citizens to cardiac emergencies in their community, PulsePoint Respond empowers the community to provide immediate assistance while professional responders are on their way,” said KFD Fire Chief Michael Gibson. According to PulsePoint, more than 350,000 people in the U.S. experience sudden cardiac arrest each year, and bystander CPR along with AED use can significantly increase survival chances. The app ensures notifications are sent only after the 911 system is activated, coordinating with emergency services for a faster response.
