Firefighters contain brush fire on Maui

The Maui Fire Department has contained a brush fire in Kahului. The fire was reported shortly before 9 p.m. near the Maui Lani Latter Day Saints Church. The Maui Emergency Management Agency issued an alert for the fire shortly after 9:20 p.m. Wednesday. Officials said the fire was contained at 10:09 p.m. and fully extinguished shortly after 11:40 p.m. Officials did not order any evacuations, but warned residents of the smoke hazard. First responders are on scene and asked the public to avoid the area while crews battle the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
