A 39-year-old man has died after an apartment fire on Friday morning, according to the McDuffie County Coroner’s Office. The coroner’s office says Ernest Lewis Jr., of Thomson, has been identified as the victim. According to officials, first responders received a call for reports of a structure fire on the 1100 block of Mesena Road at 3:13 a.m. Lewis was taken to Piedmont McDuffie emergency room, where he was pronounced deceased at 4:15 a.m. Friday, according to the coroner’s office. An autopsy has been scheduled.
