Tanker truck catches fire on Hwy 23 in Tattnall County following crash

A vehicle crash on Highway 23 ended in a fire Sunday afternoon.

The crash took place on Hwy 23 and Joseph Circle Sunday afternoon when a tanker truck collided with a light pole. The truck, which was transporting asphalt tar, caught on fire following the impact.

The driver escaped the fire and suffered minor injuries. Tattnall County EMS provided medical assistance.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Reidsville Fire Department, Smith State Prison Fire, Tattnall County Fire and Georgia State Patrol.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) and MCCD are investigating the incident.
