VIDEO: Lowndes County Fire Rescue is getting a new station as part of a larger effort to expand fire services to accommodate growth in the county. The new fire station will be built in the northern part of the county off Old Highway 41. Currently, firefighters are operating out of the old volunteer station that was built decades ago and has had many upgrades over the years. The new station will also have a wing dedicated to South Georgia Medical Center EMS. County manager Paige Dukes said they feel confident that this new station will improve the county’s ISO rating, which has a direct impact on home insurance for people living near the fire station. Lowndes County Fire Rescue Chief Billy Young said they are looking forward to working out of the new station. “For the citizens of our community, it is something that they’re going to be very proud of,” Young said.
