A Forsyth County firefighter is searching for a kidney donor after being diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney disease. For 25 years, Chris Stancel served his community, rushing toward danger when others ran away. As a firefighter and first responder, Stancel offered help and hope during people’s most terrifying moments.ย Now, he is making a call to the community after bravely answering others’ calls for so many years. A rare genetic condition caused Stancel’s diagnosis with Stage 4 kidney disease. He is currently working with Piedmont Hospital’s transplant team in hopes of finding a living kidney donor, and his blood type is A-negative. While he fights with strength and resilience, Stancel can’t do it alone. He needs a kidney donor. A donation from a living person can significantly cut the wait time for patients, while offering the best chance for long-term success, according to Piedmont’s transplant page.
