Fire breaks out at Atlanta furniture nonprofit

VIDEO: A fire broke out Wednesday morning at an Atlanta nonprofit that specializes in helping vulnerable members of the community obtain furniture. It happened at the Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta building in Atlanta’s Adair Park neighborhood. There were no injuries reported, and the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear Wednesday morning. Video from the scene showed smoke smoldering at a side portion of the building, as well as burn marks. The nonprofit’s website says it provides “donated furniture to families transitioning out of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, & living with HIV/AIDS.” An employee at the nonprofit told 11Alive’s Sefenech Henok that the facility houses hundreds of donated furniture items and they’re worried nearly all will have smoke damage. They did say they were glad the entire facility did not go up in flames.
