VIDEOS: Four children and one adult were injured in an apartment fire Monday night, according to DeKalb County Fire Rescue. Fire officials said units responded to Clarkston Oaks Apartments on Northern Avenue Monday night and saw smoke and flames coming out of the building. Residents, many of whom are refugees from Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria, were forced out of their homes around 8:30 p.m. Neighbors ran door to door to get people out. โSo we try to call everybody. Just come out, thereโs a fire. We talked in their language to get them to understand that there are some things happening and just leave the apartment,โ said Asadullah Momand. More than 10 DeKalb County Fire Rescue vehicles arrived to the scene to put out the flames. According to fire officials, one child suffered minor burns, one possibly had a broken foot and two were taken to the hospital for smoke-related injuries. An adult was also treated for smoke inhalation.
