17 residents displaced by fire at Roswell apartment complex, officials say

Officials said more than a dozen people were displaced by a fire at a Roswell apartment complex early Sunday morning.

Roswell Fire Department crews responded to the fire on Ashley Forest Drive, in The Atlantic Newtown Apartment Homes complex, just after midnight, according to the department.

โ€œCrews arrived to light smoke and discovered a hidden fire moving through concealed wall spaces between several adjoining units,โ€ the department said. โ€œFirefighters worked through the night to open walls, stop the spread, and fully extinguish the fire.โ€

Several apartments โ€œsustained significant fire, smoke and water damage,โ€ and 17 residents were displaced. The American Red Cross is assisting those residents, Roswell Fire said.

Crews also rescued a cat from one of the units, according to the department.

โ€œOne firefighter from a neighboring agencyโ€ was evaluated for a minor injury, according to Roswell Fire.
