VIDEO: A person is dead and another is badly hurt after an overnight house fire in Carroll County.
The fire took place at a home that sits on Daniel Drive, just off of Daniel Road. A 72-year-old man was taken to an Atlanta-area hospital for smoke inhalation, while a 66-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. She has not yet been publicly identified.
A neighbor says her family woke up to flames lighting up the night sky around 2 a.m. Tuesday.
“Looking through the woods, everything back there was all orange. You really couldn’t tell how close it was at that point,” said Savannah Corbitt, who lives next door.
According to the county, the home was taken over by flames but was extinguished just before 4 a.m. One person was confirmed dead, while another person was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital.
Not taking any chances, Corbitt, her husband and their three kids grabbed what they could and ran. “I mean, there were embers literally falling on the cars,” she said.
