State lawmakers pass Anthony Gillan Act to protect injured firefighters

VIDEO: A bill inspired by a North Central Florida firefighter injured during training has been approved by the Florida Legislature. The Anthony Gillan Act, named after a Marion County fire captain, was approved by the state House unanimously on Tuesday afternoon. The bill would provide benefits to firefighters injured during training exercises. A companion bill has already been approved in the state Senate.
