VIDEO: Itโs been 5 years since the Mussett Bayou Wildfire in Walton County. Now, on its anniversary, fire officials are taking time to remind people about safety and fire prevention. โIf you are going to burn, burn responsibly,โ said South Walton Fire Districtโs Fire Marshal Sammy Sanchez. Sanchez remembers the blaze that broke out during the height of the COVID pandemic. โThe funny thing is that we were standing on 98 at the command post because that is where 98 was set up and we all looked at each other at once and realized Covid does not exist today because Iโm not going to say you didnโt have time for it, itโs just wasnโt something you were considering because we had a bigger issue at hand,โ said Sanchez. The Musset Bayou Fire of 2020 was not only large but fast.
