Sanibel firefighters celebrate ‘move-in day’ at rebuilt station

It’s been 1,141 days since Sanibel Fire Rescue District Station 172 was destroyed by Hurricane Ian. The rebuilt station opened on Wednesday.

Station 172 was destroyed by Hurricane Ian in 2022, and since then, Sanibel firefighters had been operating out of a temporary trailer, continuing to serve the community.

SFRD announced that Station 172 would be reopening on Facebook, stating that Wednesday was move-in day at the rebuilt station.

“A huge thank you to the incredible build team from Sanibel Fire Rescue District, SchenkelShultz, and Manhattan Construction Group who worked tirelessly to make this moment possible,” the Facebook post said.
