Man tried to save neighbor in deadly North Fort Myers mobile home fire

VIDEO: A North Fort Myers man said he tried to pull his neighbor from a burning trailer, but the fire was already too intense. Joseph Boreff lives just a few feet away from the mobile home on Coachlight Lane that caught fire late Tuesday night. Doorbell camera video shows the moment the home lit up and Boreff rushing toward the home. “I ran over trying to save the guy, and it was just too much smoke, I guess, it’s just too severe of a situation for me to go in the house and save him,” said Boreff. “And it was just too late.”

Fire crews found one person dead inside the trailer. That person’s name hasn’t been released, but Boreff says the man was more than a neighbor; he was a friend. “He helped me with my power box. He’d cut my grass,” said Boreff. The trailer is now completely gutted; burned from the outside in. Inside, blackened furniture and melted walls are all that remain. Neighbors say the flames burned for nearly an hour before it was put out. In Mobile Manor, where trailers are separated by just feet, many are calling it a miracle that the fire didn’t spread. The state fire marshal is still investigating exactly what caused the flames.
