Man hospitalized, dog dies after house fire in Dania Beach

VIDEO: A man was hospitalized and his small dog died after a fire erupted Monday night at a home in Dania Beach, first responders confirmed. According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, the fire was reported at about 9:45 p.m. in the 2600 block of Southwest 54th Place. Firefighters said a neighbor across the street initially reported the incident. โ€œUpon arrival, firefighters observed heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home,โ€ BSFR said in an email to Local 10 News.

โ€œCrews immediately initiated a fire attack while simultaneously conducting a search and rescue operation.โ€ According to BSFR, a man was found inside the home and was transported to nearby hospital. His condition has not been released. Firefighters confirmed that a small dog was found inside a kennel in the home and did not survive. โ€œMore than 35 BSFR personnel responded to the scene along with firefighters from Hollywood Fire Rescue,โ€ BSFR said. โ€œThe fire was brought under control in approximately 10 minutes, successfully preventing flames from spreading to adjacent homes.โ€ The Florida State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
