For the first time in 13 years, Key Biscayne will have a new Fire Rescue Chief. Veteran Joseph “Joe” Fernandez will assume the role this spring, taking over for Eric Lang, a founding member of the department who served 32 years, including the past 13 as the group’s leader. Lang will officially retire May 1. “I want to thank Eric Lang for his 30-plus years of service to Key Biscayne,” Village Manager Steve Williamson said. “He’s really taken us to an extremely high level on the local, state and national level. We can’t thank him enough for putting us in the position where we are at.” Fernandez is certainly no rookie when it comes to leadership positions. Fernandez brings a wealth of experience in fire rescue operations, emergency management and community engagement.
