Hillsborough County Fire Rescue says 1 seriously injured in huge, 20-car salvage yard fire

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said multiple crews responded to a massive fire in a salvage yard on Saturday. Crews were called in at around 3:15 p.m. to a salvage yard on Jensen Road, with reports that a forklift had caught on fire. The flames quickly spread to surrounding vehicles until around twenty cars were ablaze. HCFR said they initially faced some challenges with water supply due to the scale of the fire, but were able to establish a flow to two aerial trucks that battled flames from above. There were also challenges from the weather. Storms and lightning grounded aerial operations, though responders stayed on the scene with firefighting foam to tackle the last of the flames. One civilian was transported to a local hospital with serious burn injuries, HCFR said. No injuries to first responders were reported. The fire was extinguished after around two hours, and an investigation into the cause has begun.
