Hernando County Fire Rescue, Brooksville Fire Department combining services county-wide

The City of Brooksville Fire Department and Hernando County Fire Rescue announced they are combining their agencies and consolidating their services county-wide. Starting at 8 a.m. on Oct. 1, HCFR is assuming full responsibility for fire suppression, fire prevention, rescue, emergency medical response services and other related emergency services within Brooksville. The Brooksville Fire Station will still operate under Hernando County Fire Rescue, integrating all BFD personnel into the county’s system. “This transition is designed to strengthen public safety and improve emergency response capabilities for residents and businesses throughout the city,” fire officials wrote in a news release.

All fire rescue units within Brooksville will now be equipped with Advanced Life Support (ALS) capabilities that HCFR has. The units will also be staffed by cross-trained firefighter/paramedics and firefighter/EMTs, ensuring first responders have rapid, skilled care during medical emergencies, in addition to full firefighting capabilities. “The City and County extend their gratitude to the men and women of the Brooksville Fire Department for their many years of dedicated service and look forward to the successful future under a unified fire rescue system,” HCFR wrote.
