Firefighter suffers medical emergency while battling Cedar Key house fire

A firefighter is recovering at the hospital after several fire crews battled a house fire in Cedar Key on Tuesday morning.

Officials say a home on stilts caught fire on State Road 24 around 10 p.m., in the area known as โ€œBeckham Island.โ€

Fire crews from across Levy County battled the fire for several hours, clearing the scene around 5:30 a.m.

Chiefland officials said one of their firefighters suffered a medical emergency during the call and was taken to the hospital.

They said his condition is improving. No other injuries were reported.

The house is considered a total loss. The State Fire Marshalsโ€™ Office was notified and is investigating the fire.
