VIDEO: A man was rescued after falling 20 feet into the water near the Treasure Island Causeway bridge early Thursday, officials said.
The incident happened shortly after midnight on the east side of the Treasure Island Causeway bridge, which was closed for overnight repairs, according to Treasure Island Fire Rescue officials. Crews responded to a 911 call about a person who was yelling for help. A St. Pete Beach Fire Rescue boat responded and found a man in the water with a head injury, officials said. Crews rescued the man and took him to Orlando Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials said it appeared that the man had approached the bridge to watch the repair works underway. At some point, he fell 20 feet into the water below, officials said.
