2 hospitalized after fire breaks out at Largo townhouse

Two people are hospitalized after a fire broke out Tuesday morning at a townhouse in Largo. Largo Fire Rescue responded around 11:30 a.m. to a structure fire on South Pines Drive.

A spokesperson for the agency said two people were transported to the hospital, and no one else was hurt. She also confirmed that the fire is out. It’s not clear what caused the fire or the extent of the people’s injuries.

10 Tampa Bay News spoke to the woman who called 911 to report the fire. “I live across the street. I was on the phone talking to a friend. I heard ‘pop, pop, pop’ and then I saw flames, and I ran to open my back gate. The flames went from the bottom right to the roof in a matter of seconds,” she said.

The woman explained that she called 911 and then ran out into the street to flag down a neighbor to alert her about the fire. The neighbor, she said, actually entered the home and saved the woman who was inside. “She ran out and kicked in the door and saved that lady,” she said.
