Wrong-way driver dies in fiery DC 295 crash

A deadly overnight crash on DC 295 left one driver dead and another critically injured early Tuesday morning after a high-speed collision involving a wrong-way vehicle on the highway’s northbound lanes.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:17 a.m. on northbound DC 295 just north of the Pennsylvania Avenue SE exit, when a Mercedes E350, traveling south in the northbound lanes, slammed into an Audi Q7 heading north.

The impact killed the driver of the Mercedes on the scene. Emergency crews from DC Fire and EMS attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. The driver of the Audi was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Franyana Williams of District Heights, Maryland.

The investigation remains active and is being handled by the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
