Several displaced in Southeast DC fire, officials say

Seven people are without a home after a fire broke out in Southeast DC early Sunday morning, officials said.

In a post on X at 3:30 a.m., the DC Fire and EMS Department said crews were responding to a fire at a two-story, โ€œsemi-detachedโ€ home in the 500 block of Atlantic Street SE.

The flames were coming from a bedroom on the second floor of the home, officials noted. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the blaze, even calling on additional units for help.

No one was injured; however, officials said that four adults and three children were displaced.

As of Sunday morning, it is unclear what caused the fire to ignite.
