VIDEO/PHOTOS: Two people escaped from a burning home in Northwest DC early Saturday after a smoke alarm alerted them to the fire, waking them from their sleep, according to officials. Crews responded to the fire at a two-story home in the 4500 block of 44th St. at around 3:30 a.m. There, they found flames coming from the porch and front room of the home, with a live power line down on the front of the house, according to the DC Fire and EMS Department. The fire extended to the homeโs second floor and into the attic. Pictures posted by DCFD on social media show raging flames coming from the porch, with the front end of the home left scorched. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the fire, spraying hotspots throughout the house. Officials said the two people who escaped after hearing the smoke alarm were not injured; however, both were displaced.
