In a post to the X platform, firefighters responded to reports of a fire around 3:30 p.m., when smoke was seen coming from a three-story apartment building in the 600 block of Kennedy Street NW.
There, firefighters located flames in the apartmentโs basement and rescued a man who was trapped inside. Crews rushed him to the hospital with critical injuries, firefighters added.
An additional firetruck was requested, and the flames were extinguished.
