Carbon dioxide leak spurs evacuation in Northwest DC

Several businesses along a street in northwest DC were evacuated Monday morning following reports of a chemical spill.

DC Fire Rescue and EMS shared on social media that crews responded to the 1000 block of 7th Street, Northwest, for a hazmat box alarm and evacuated multiple businesses as a precaution.

Fire officials later determined the incident involved a small carbon dioxide leak inside a restaurant.

The restaurant was ventilated, and no injuries were reported. First responders said units have since cleared the scene.
