Accidental Elsmere house fire leaves one resident hospitalized

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a house fire in Elsmere on Wednesday evening, July 23, 2025. According to the Elsmere Fire Company, firefighters arrived in the 100 block of Elizabeth Avenue around 6:40 p.m. with flames shooting from the second floor and into the attic. The Fire Marshal’s Office said one male resident suffered smoke inhalation. He was treated at the scene, then was taken to Christiana Hospital. The fire caused about $75,000 and was caused by careless smoking on a second-floor deck. The Red Cross responded to assist displaced residents.
