Two firefighters fall through floor battling fire in Hartford

Two firefighters fell through a floor while battling a fire in Hartford. Crews responded to 419 Hudson Street at 9:28 p.m. for a working fire at an apartment building in the South Green neighborhood.

A Mayday was declared when two firefighters fell through a floor during the operation. One firefighter caught himself and sustained no reported injuries.

The other firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution. The Mayday was canceled within two minutes, officials said. No civilian injuries were reported.

The fire was knocked down. The Hartford Fire Marshalโ€™s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The Departmentโ€™s Special Services Unit is coordinating with the American Red Cross to assist the three families who were forced out of the building.

The West Hartford Fire Department and East Hartford Fire Department provided mutual aid by covering additional calls during the incident. CT Transit provided buses to serve as temporary warm shelters for residents.
