Longtime East Haven firefighter/paramedic Adam Ordway was promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief by the East Haven Board of Fire Commissioners, Monday.
Ordway has been an East Haven firefighter for eight years and was a firefighter/paramedic with West Haven Center District for two years prior to joining the East Haven Fire Department.
He’s a 15-year veteran of the Connecticut Army National Guard, and served two tours in Afghanistan, one as an infantryman beginning in 2006 and the second, as an infantry fire-team leader.
In 2018, he was one of four Local 1205 firefighters who raised thousands of dollars for the American Lung Association Fight for Air Stair Climb recently. The four-man team climbed 34 floors a total of 688 steps in full firefighting gear for the cause.
And earlier this year he, along with several other firefighters, were recognized during the 2025 Yale Center for EMS Responder Recognition Awards, including specifically the successful cardiac arrest resuscitations of three East Haven residents during the past year. “The department is looking to you to do great things,” Fire Chief Matt Marcarelli said.
