PHOTOS: Fire crews responded to a huge fire at a historic barn Thursday morning. Emergency officials confirmed they were called to 40 Karosi Rd. where they encountered heavy fire conditions when they arrived. Mansfield Fire Chief Kevin Danielson said one person was inside the home when the fire broke out; however, that person was able to safely escape. The individual was said to be staying with neighbors.
Due to the rural location and lack of area fire hydrants, firefighters said they had to shuttle water to the site using 3,000 gallon tanker trucks, which drew from nearby rivers. Multiple departments responded to help, including crews from West Stafford, Willington, the University of Connecticut, and state police. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
