A firefighter was injured while battling a fire at an auto shop in Naugatuck Thursday morning and was taken to the hospital. Michael Chatfield, the deputy chief of the Naugatuck Fire Department, said firefighters responded to a call about a fire at Autohaus, at 395 Rubber Ave. at 2:34 a.m. and they found heavy smoke coming from the roof and garage bay.
They pulled a car that they believe is electric from the building. “Unfortunately, no matter how much water you put down there, the fire’s not going out so the decision was made to remove it from the building for safety of not only the crew that’s on scene but for the investigators moving onto the investigative portion,” Chatfield said.
Firefighters had the fire knocked down in around 15 to 20 minutes. The fire marshal will investigate the cause of the fire. Chatfield said he spoke with the injured firefighter who said he’s going to be alright.
